It is easy to resolve the conflict, but that means you will have to discard the changes that you made to the project file. (But I agree that it is a pain to uncheck the boxes in the sync dialog if there are a lot of files.) However, if you edit a project file and skip the sync, and then update the external version of the file, then there will be a conflict when you do the external > project sync. If you edit a project file, you can of course skip syncing back to the external file. It should work if you are only ever editing the external files, and then syncing to the project files. So that all works fine for full two-way sync, but maybe I misunderstood your requirements - do you want full two-way sync, or do you need only external > project sync, and not back the other way? After you have done that, you can edit either file and maintain the sync. You can edit either the Flare version or the external version, but after doing so, you need to add the newly created props file to the mappings list before your sync. Method 2 - Same as method one really, but if you insert and sync the external image before making edits in Capture, you need to add the props file to the mappings list manually after your first Capture edit. You can also edit the Flare version, and sync the changes back to the external file properly (i.e with the props file, not as a flat file). add objects), then do a sync, and your Flare copy of the image will update properly. You can now edit the external file in capture (e.g. In the mappings confirmation that appears, you will see that the image and the props file are mapped for sync.ģ. Bring the external image into your Flare project, and select the sync check box. This creates a props file in the external location.Ģ. Edit the external image in Capture and add objects as desired - before adding it to your Flare project. Hi Shawn, there are a couple of ways to get sync working properly with Flare/Capture.ġ. Flare is not aware of those Capture changes. If the source image is updated, Flare's file sync won't work for any image edited in Capture. I have encapsulated the main issues (and some extras) that I found with Flare's File Sync tool. And because I am using MadCap Capture, I discontinued using the File Sync tool to avoid the mess it would make to my original source images. The only way to update the image is by opening MadCap Capture and selecting Replace image.īasically, I am forced to compromise by giving up the idea of only having a single copy of an image located in an external folder. If the source image is updated, Flare's file sync won't work for any image edited in Capture. When an image is changed with Capture, the sync tool wants to copy over the source image! I don't want to overwrite the source image with a flatten MadCap Capture edited image! This is when Flare's file sync spectacularly breaks down! It all works well until I receive updated images, copied into the master source folder. Updating images, to the master source folder Using MadCap Capture to edit many of the synced images Sync images from a common non-project folder - call it master source folder Is it possible that I am the only person who is trying to: I realize that I have brought this topic up in the past but please allow one more post on this.
